don't be Burnout Barbie

a weekly(-ish) newsletter on websites, workflows, writing & getting paid

Happy end of Q1 Reader,

Sending this from a hotel lobby with a low battery, no charger and a prayer - pls excuse any typos!

I used to think the only way to grow my business—the “right” way—was to make it hard.

👉🏼 More offers. More deliverables. More payment plans. More fancy workflows in Asana (or, to be more accurate, Trello/Airtable/Notion/Kitchen.co.... bc none are perfect and I can't commit)

👉🏼 More complexity, because surely if it didn’t feel exhausting, I hadn’t earned the win.

^^Any of that sound familiar??

For a while, I let that chaos run the show.

I had too many offers, too many price points, too many things I couldn't repeat without reinventing the wheel each time.

My to-do list gave CVS receipt energy—long, crumpled, and filled with things I forgot I even added.

It all looked like a thriving business, and I was earning those bucks, but behind the scenes, it wasn’t working—and worse, it wasn’t sustainable.

I've officially capped my own personal level of burnout. So the first thing I did in 2025 was burn it all down (strategically, with snacks) and rebuild it the way it should’ve been from the start—

✨ simple, streamlined, and sustainable.

  • I cleaned out my Dubsado and Google Drive like it was spring cleaning for my brain.
  • I cut my 1:1 offer suite down to ONE. (Yes, just one.)
  • I rebuilt my inquiry process to rely heavily on automated follow-ups (wrote about it here- still obsessed)
  • And I stopped trying to force systems that didn’t fit me. Until Google Workspace comes up with better task boards, I'm done 🙅🏼‍♀️

Now?
✅ I’m getting more qualified inquiries.
✅ My email list is growing daily (and legally 🙌🏼).
✅ I can nurture more people—at whatever stage they're at in the 'buying' process

It turns out, all those experts who preach ONE OFFER/ONE CLIENT.... were kinda on to something. All it took was my stubborn self getting to a breaking point that gave me no choice but to listen.

Nothing magical happened. I just finally stopped overcomplicating everything.

Sending this reminder out (with love), bc I hear the same issues with nearly every discovery call I have... your website, your process, or your business is feeling too much right now… I get it. You're not alone.

It might be time to trim the fat.
To stop trying to be everything, everywhere, all at once.
To stop making it harder than it needs to be.

And if your website is one of those things that’s causing stress, here's a secret (free) link where we can chat it out. (no pitch, just strategy for you to do what you want with)

If you're nodding your head and think maybe you should pair down your offers and to-do list also, then you might also like this oldie but goodie blog post on productivity (it's not your typical 'batch work' or 'get a pomodoro' --> click here to check it out

PS: I’ve been quietly testing this done-with-you version of my web design offer— and i've got a couple spots left. If you've got 'get/refresh a website', but on a budget, (and can be ready in May), hit reply.

(see the old me would have had a fancy form, but look at me now *patting myself on the back*)

Anyway, you'll get branding, strategy, full installation, and tech setup (read: I handle the annoying bits). You bring the vision, I’ll bring the creativity—and we’ll do it together. If you're curious and want to be considered for one of the last beta spots, just hit reply and say "Tell me more."

WATERCOOLER BUZZ

Let’s spill the tea—web, design, and biz trends comin’ in hot.

💜 Dubsado 3.0: I watched an intro video, and was sent a secret link to start using it! Ahhhh! They asked us to record our reactions seeing it for the first time bc she's THAT pretty! Will share all the deets (and when beta will open up to more users)

🗞️ Copywriting for Creatives: is open for enrollment-- I credit Ashlyn and this course for everything that I've been able to do in my business- my web copy, newsletter, marketing. If you're struggling with messaging and what to say, check this out (check it out even if you're not, bc it's that sales page is a piece of art). Not an affiliate, just an obsessed fan and alum.

💰 Circle's Creator Path Summit: it's free, it's online and you'll be able to interact and learn from 12 successful creators for 2 days about branding, long form content, youtube, and more. April 15&16.

WEBSITES in the wild

Do we have any multi-passionate slashies here? Even though I JUST got done preaching about simplifying your offer suite, I know that we might not all be ready for that.

And even if we narrow it down to just one niche or main offer, we still might have multiple ways to serve. Blog, portfolio, free resources, shop, multiple service offerings....

^^^That's what a well-crafted home page is for. It's like a train station, where you show who you are and who you're for... and then point your visitors to what they're ultimately looking for.

Check out this well done section on the home page from Protect Sundays 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

📰 DUBSADO INSIDER TIPS

FROM YOUR PERSONAL CERTIFIED DUBSADO SPECIALIST

Q: I'm new to Dubsado and have been thankfully utilizing the free trial to learn the program. Although it hasn't been easy, I have setup workflow automations. I would like to thoroughly TEST them out, to see what works and what doesn't.

A: The best way to test your Dubsado workflows while still in the free trial is to walk through them as if you were a client. If you still have the "Sample Client" in your account, update its email address to your own and use it to submit any lead capture forms you’ve set up to trigger the workflows. This lets you test everything without using up one of your three free client slots.
