Data’s your new BFF—meet her

a weekly(-ish) newsletter on websites, workflows, writing & getting paid

Happy FridayReader,

It’s the year of our Lord 2025, and we all still need this reminder:

🔥 Your feelings are not data. 🔥

We say we don't do it, but we all do. Making decisions based on feelings doesn't work.

I get it. It’s way too easy to assume something isn’t working just because it feels like it’s not.

We switch up our offers, abandon blogging for social media, or start tinkering with our website … all because we’re not seeing instant results. (Been there, done that, rebranded five times.)

But here’s the thing: Data’s the only boss you need and here’s why

Feelings lie—numbers don’t. That sales page you're not sure about? Might be quietly converting. That blog you ditched? Could be the one thing Google’s still sending people to. Chasing your gut keeps you spinning; data keeps you winning.

Here’s how to flip the script:
📊 Check the pulse first. No traffic—or just no clue? Dig into Google Analytics before you torch it all. I’ve cried “dead site” only to find 200 visitors hiding in plain sight.
🧐 Focus on what sticks. A thousand visitors bouncing is a snooze; 50 turning into 20 bookings is your jackpot. Conversion’s the game—play it.
💡 Tweak, don’t trash. Ready to nuke your offer? Swap the headline or button first—track it for a week. Small moves, big reveals.

Not tracking yet? Start simple:
✔️ Google Analytics – Who’s showing up, what they’re doing, who’s buying.
✔️ Google Search Console – The secret sauce people type to find you.
✔️ Hotjar – Where they linger, where they ditch—eye-opening stuff.

Want proof your site’s pulling its weight (not just looking pretty)? Snag this:

Side note: this is why the first thing I do with every website is set up Google Analytics and start tracking data.

THIS is the same tracker I use on my clients and now you can use it on your own too—cheers to that! 🥂

WATERCOOLER BUZZ

Let’s spill the tea—web, design, and biz trends comin’ in hot.

🍳 Kitchen.co– my new BFF?: I'm 5 days in, and it’s like the Clueless makeover scene—total glow-up for my client portal. Testing it now & will report back!

👖 Flare Jeans Are Back, Baby: InStyle’s calling it—flare jeans are spring 2025’s must-have (thanks, Kendrick). Where are we at on this?

💡 Squarespace’s Nostalgia Play: Retro image hover effects are trending—like a 90s music video fade-in. And I’m here for it.

🎨 Mocha Mousse Magic: Pantone’s 2025 pick, Mocha Mousse, is everywhere. Warm, comfy tones for your next brand refresh—thoughts? I’m feeling it for fall vibes, but rn it's too cold to go there.

🛠️ New Creative Tool: The latest AI-powered/ChatGPT competitor, Grok3 is making waves. Could this replace designers? (Spoiler: No. But it’s fun to play with.)

WEBSITES in the wild

Overstuffed navigation menus are a vibe killer—don’t mess with this. Cramming too much into your header is a one-way ticket to Bounceville. Your clients—photogs, designers, dream-chasers—want a clear path, not a scavenger hunt.

Peep Katelyn James Photography Her site’s a masterclass in simplifying a LOT of offerings, zero clutter. ND friends, take notes.

📰 DUBSADO INSIDER TIPS

FROM YOUR PERSONAL CERTIFIED DUBSADO SPECIALIST

Q: Hello All! I'm a wedding photographer and I'm somewhat new to Dubsado. I'm looking to set up a Second Photographer Contract and I'm not sure the best way to set it up. Should I do a project for all second photographers and send out links or set up individual seconds projects? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

A: A few options work, but here’s the winner: one project for each contractor. Then they have a main contract agreement that outlines the terms, and for each job they get a subcontract with the date, project details (hours, location, payment).

Upload any invoices I’ve paid to them as PDFs in their client portal.

**Dubsado's anniversary sale is still happening! The deal is 30% off, AND you can stack it with my 30% off specialist code.

WEEKLY ROUNDUP

📖 READING: Good Boundaries and Goodbyes by Lysa Terkeurst

📺 BINGING THIS: Gabby Petito on Netflix. They did an amazing job honoring her heartbreaking story.

🍽️ IN THE KITCHEN: Fun fact– I taught myself to cook, organically, over time. One of the VERY first things I ever made from scratch was this enchilada sauce. (this is how sweet lil Megan found out what a roux was). And it's still a staple. Warning: You'll never go back to canned sauce again. You're welcome.

🔨 WORKING ON: dusting off the cobwebs from my Instagram and Pinterest.
