[📝 List Builders Club] WEEK 1

Welcome to the club Reader 🎉

It’s tiny-but-mighty right now — I LOVE that. We get to build this from the ground up together, in real time, without pressure or perfection.

The BEST part of having an email list, is building relationships. You're creating a direct line for people who have raised their hands and want to hear from you. It's the key to staying top of mind, and making sure that when people are ready to buy (not everyone is!), you're the obvious choice.

The LBC idea:

I started a travel business as a case study/passion project. Growing an email list is my number one priority for this business. I had a lightbulb thought to invite you to come alongside me and we can do this together.

  • The goal is NOT to get to 10,000 subscribers.
  • It’s not to make a certain amount of money.
  • And it’s definitely not to build an empire in 30 days.

We can't control any of those outcomes.

But what we CAN control is how we show up.

So, the goal is simply this:
To show up for one hour a day, five days a week, and offer value

This isn't hard. But it does require effort and commitment. And content creation. Yes, I'm going to ask you to pick a platform and post or pin every day.

What to expect:

  • Monday morning emails with tasks for the week.
  • Updates on what I've done and how I'm progressing.
  • We'll hold each other accountable. Pinky promise.

A little bit of housekeeping:

  • Create a filter for these emails, so they don't get lost or go to spam. I'll start each one with [📝 List Builders Club] so they're easy to find.
  • If the timing of this doesn't work for you right now, that's ok - let these emails collect in a folder and pick a start date.
  • Work on the steps for Week 1 (below). Reply back if you have questions or need more help with any bit of it. (srsly - I'm new here too and I want to help!)

To be completely honest and transparent– I'm building this ship as we go. I have a map, but I've never done this before. So we really are a team, ok?

I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s see what one hour a day can do. 🤍

Resources:

I maaaaay have gone overboard in prepping this thing. Zero regrets.

Week 1:

The first week will be setting everything up. Everything is outlined and detailed in the Week 1 Workbook above.

Here is what we're building:

  1. An email platform. I use and recommend Kit - yes, there's a free plan and that's all you'll need.
  2. A really good freebie. Already have something? PERFECT. If you don't, that's fine too. What can you teach, that's so good you could charge money for? Here are 25 Freebie Ideas if you need them.
  3. A landing page. This is a page where people will click to, learn about your freebie and then throw down their email address. If you have a website, create one there. If you don't, you can use the free one with Kit.
  4. A platform to market on. Pick ONE social channel. I'll be using Instagram. (I suggest avoiding FB, YouTube, X). Make sure the link to your landing page is in your bio. Don't worry about posting this week.
  5. Posting content ideas. You don't have to have this nailed down this week, but be thinking about it. Next week I'll help you craft your newsletter.

Megan's Journey:

Starting subscriber count: 0

Website: Paradise Travel Co (not settled on the name)

Freebie: WDW Vacation Planner and I'm also going to make a quiz this week. The goal here is to reach people who don't realize how much work goes into planning and also people who just want to dream a little.

Strategy: Blogging 2x/wk, Pinterest + Instagram 5x/wk. I plan on waking up 90 minutes early every day to accomplish this.

Will share subscriber count, subject lines, preview copy, open rates and click rates as we go.

a weekly(-ish) newsletter on websites, marketing, funnels & getting paid Gonna keep this one tight today, Reader, Because apparently one of the side effects of having a high school senior is a very full calendar, a growing awareness that these moments are numbered, and nearly every conversation starting with the same question What's the plan after graduation? College? Trade school? Military? Jump straight into a job and figure things out along the way? There are so many options. And not a...

a weekly(-ish) newsletter on websites, marketing, funnels & getting paid Happy Valentine's Day, Reader, *not gonna admit how many conversation hearts I've gone through while making Valentine boxes and silently judging the font kerning on them… Popping in today with something to show you my appreciation— from a web designer turned creative strategist / offer fixer point of view. One of the most common requests I get? “Help me get more clients.” Naturally, most people assume they need more...

At some point in between collecting frozen eggs from the chicken coop, and flying down the driveway in a homemade sled (a laundry basket screwed to an old pair of skis), I saw my 8-year-old twins watching a YouTube short about a Super Bowl comeback that happened before they were even born. Which… fair. *I know* I only watch the big game bc I've got a...
