🎵 I'll be there for you | Summer Mixtape Series

Hey, Reader,

Welcome to my Summer Mixtape series—where each week we're dusting off an old-school business principle and looking at how it still works in a noisy world full of AI, templates, and automation where everybody is an expert.

Track 01: Everybody talks

Track 02: Wannabe

Track 03: I want it that way

This week:

Track 04: I'll be there for you

Have you ever walked into someone's house for the first time and immediately felt at home?

Someone greeted you. They offered you something to drink. There was a comfy place to sit. You weren't wondering where the bathroom was or if you were in the way.

Good hospitality makes people feel taken care of before they ever ask for anything. Businesses should do the same.

My pre-internet business lesson for today is this: Great businesses don't just solve problems—they make people feel taken care of.

Some call it customer experience. Web designers call it user experience. Marketers call it a funnel. I think it's hospitality.

❓Before they ask, have I already answered it?

❓Before they get confused, have I already guided them?

❓Before they leave, have I given them a reason to stay?

❓Before they wonder what's next, have I shown them?

This is why web designers spend so much time thinking about navigation, page order, FAQs, confirmation emails, button labels, and basically everything that happens before and after someone clicks "Submit."

The song isn't called I'll Be There If You Can Figure It Out.
It's I'll Be There For You.

First impressions matter. Before someone ever reaches out or buys from you, your website is already introducing you, answering questions, building trust, and showing people what it's like to work with you. This is their first taste of how you'll take care of them once they jump in.

As always, if you ever want to chat more about this, as with all my letters, just hit reply. I'll be right here waiting for you 🎵

🎟️ BACKSTAGE PASS

Something I didn't expect happened while writing this series... Every week I've been introducing another piece of my process, and somewhere along the way I realized I wasn't just writing newsletters anymore—I was rebuilding my entire business.

BRAND WEEK.
COPY WEEK
And now... WEBSITE WEEK.

I guess this accidentally turned into a launch.

So let's celebrate with code MIXTAPE20 to save 20% on any 1:1 service or digital product featured during the Summer Mixtape series. Yes, ANY.

Even on my DIY signature offers: the Brand Kit + the Offer Architect.

SIDE 'B' HOMEWORK

Walk through your own website like you're a first-time visitor. Without clicking randomly, answer these questions:

  • Do I know what this business does in five seconds?
  • Do I know who it's for?
  • Do I know what to do next?
  • Did I ever feel confused?
  • At any point, did I wonder, "Now what?"

Wherever you hesitated... Your visitors probably do too.
